1. Central repository of Batak family tree
There are many sites on the internet containing Batak family tree, or a part of it. But most of the sites represent family tree data as human readable text, not machine readable, and without any standard. The purpose of this project is to create a central repository of Batak family tree which holds family tree data in a standardized data format (GEDCOM or any other better method). "Central repository" here means that the data should not be just viewable by all but also updatable.
2. Relationship terminology finder
When two Bataks meet, they have to investigate their relationship in order to know how to properly call each other. This is not an easy task for younger Batak generation, or for Batak who grew up away from the culture. This project will standardize a rule for relationship terminology, and then create an algorithm for finding the correct relationship terminology, given relevant family tree data. Applications can then be made based on this rule and algorithm, as well as family tree data.
3. Batak script transliterator
In order to help Batak to learn and use Batak script, this project will create an algorithm for turning Batak text based on roman letters to Batak script, and vice versa.
A combination of no.1 and no.2 can for example help young Batak generation to avoid marrying someone who is not supposed to be married (i.e., because of related family name or marga) according to Batak culture.
